Jazz great Stan Levey passed away last night.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with medicine but, since it doesn't seem to appear anywhere else on the net, let me sadly announce that drummer Stan Levey passed away last night.

Levey is truly one of the great heros of jazz and was one of the pioneers of bebop. Brilliant technically and with a wonderful sense of rhythm, he had an amazing knack for sticking a beat in where you absolutely least expected it. His driving beat made for some spectacular jazz and the great innovators of his day such as Parker, Gillespie, Davis, Hawkins, Barnett, ad infinitum loved playing with him.

For those of us moved by the art form we call jazz, he will be missed.
